Gale believes Liverpool needed Van Dijk more and does not think missing out on him is a huge blow for Conte and Chelsea.
But he reckons the centre-back would have found it easier slotting into the Italian's back three at Stamford Bridge.
“Time will tell but I don’t think (it will be) that costly because I think Chelsea defensively as a unit are pretty solid,” Gale said.
“Yes, the addition of one more would have been good, but I don’t think they were as desperate as Liverpool.
