Conte made the comment following Barkley’s £15million move from Everton to Chelsea last night.
Thompson claims the midfielder is yet to reach his full potential and has plenty to prove at Stamford Bridge.
“He’s not a complete player, I think he was lacking that at Everton,” the Liverpool legend said on Sky Sports.
“There’s been certain managers who have had my views. This boy is a talent, but it’s finding where the best place is for him to be.

“He is so comfortable on the ball, he should be getting assists and up there with the top assist makers.
“He should be scoring a lot more goals and he doesn’t do it.
“I’m hoping he (Antonio Conte) can (get the best out of Barkley) because he hasn’t realised that potential at all at Everton.
“He’s flittered in and out of games, I’m looking for him to do a lot more.

"That’s where I see his position. Who plays there? It’s Eden Hazard.
“So I don’t know where they’re going to find a place for him, but I think he needed to move on.”
Barkley is yet to play a game this season due to a serious hamstring injury but he is close to returning to fitness.
