Sheffield United news: Blades contact Middlesbrough over Adam Clayton move
SHEFFIELD UNITED are considering a deal for Middlesbrough ace Adam Clayton.
Sheffield United are interested in Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Clayton
Blades boss Chris Wilder is on the hunt for a new midfielder in the January transfer window after losing Paul Coutts for the rest of the season due to a broken leg.
Clayton has made just one appearance since mid-October after falling out of favour under former boss Garry Monk
Sheffield United chiefs have enquired about his availability.
But Tony Pulis has since replaced Monk at the Riverside Stadium.
Tony Pulis appointed Middlesbrough manager: Why did he take job? Why was he chosen?
According to HITC, they are now waiting to see whether Pulis is willing to loan Clayton out for the rest of the season.
Clayton has made 150 appearances for Middlesbrough since joining from Huddersfield in 2014.
He came through the ranks at Manchester City but failed to make a senior appearance for the club before a move to Leeds United in 2010.
Sheffield United will be without Paul Coutts for the rest of the season
Coutts has been an integral player for the Blades under Wilder but broke his leg against Burton Albion last month.
They have struggled without him, picking up just one win from seven games.
Coutts is on the long road to recovery after being fitted with a smaller cast.
“It’s good to be back among the lads and it’s going okay,” he told the Yorkshire Post.
Southend midfielder Ryan Leonard is also on the Blades’ radar but they have had a series of bids rejected since the summer.
