ASTON VILLA boss Steve Bruce has been told to complete the permanent signing of Sam Johnstone… by the future king!
Prince William wants Aston Villa to sign Sam Johnstone on a permanent basis
Manchester United keeper Johnstone, 24, is on a season-long loan with the Championship club and his royal form between the sticks has sparked talk of a full-time move to Villa Park.
Prince William - the club’s most famous fan - was at Villa Park earlier this week when he gave Bruce his regal transfer order.
“Sometimes in your job you get these perks,” Bruce said. “They were delight.
“William is a big Villa fan and knew a lot.
“He was pleading with me to get Sam Johnstone tied up and make his deal permanent.
“We're pretty fortunate to have him as one of our big supporters.
“It's quite remarkable really. It was a very enjoyable day, I have to say.”
Villa will reportedly face competition from Premier League strugglers West Brom for his signature.
He was very keen that I tie up the future of Sam Johnstone!
According to The Sun, the Baggies are set to submit a £5million bid in January.
United chiefs have an option to bring Johnstone - out of contract next summer - back to Old Trafford in January.
They are reportedly considering recalling him when the transfer window reopens so they can cash in.
The Preston-born stopper has played every minute in the Championship this term, conceding just 17 goals in 18 appearances.

Bruce revealed last month that he wants Johnstone to stay at Villa on a permanent basis.
“We will do everything in our power to get him here permanently,” he said.
“He is going to find it difficult at United to break through because of what they have got so we are hopeful.”
