Sunderland make Chris Coleman their top target, Wales boss interested in taking job
SUNDERLAND have made Wales boss Chris Coleman their top target to succeed Simon Grayson as manager.
Wales boss Chris Coleman is interested in the Sunderland job
And Coleman is interested in taking the job with the Championship’s bottom club, according to the Daily Mail.
The 47-year-old’s future as Wales manager is uncertain following their failure to reach next summer’s World Cup in Russia.
Coleman is out of contract but FAW bosses have attempted to extend his contract until 2020.
The Daily Mail claim a return to club management is tempting Coleman, who has previously been in charge of Fulham, Real Sociedad, Coventry and AEL.
Sunderland have been on the hunt for a new boss since sacking Grayson on October 31.
Black Cats chief executive Martin Bain held talks with Northern Ireland gaffer Michael O’Neill earlier this week but he is not interested in the position.
Former Rangers manager Ally McCoist and Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom have also been linked.
But it is Coleman who has emerged as the favourite and he is now as low as 1/10 to take the job.
Sunderland chief executive Martin Bain is on the hunt for a new manager
Bain hopes to appoint a new manager before Saturday’s home clash with Millwall but is not prepared to rush such a crucial decision.
Caretaker manager Robbie Stockdale will continue against Millwall if an appointment is not made by the time the Lions visit the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland will set a new English record of 20 home games without a win if they fail to beat Neil Harris’ side.
