Next Sunderland manager: Black Cats have not approached Aitor Karanka despite Twitter hint
SUNDERLAND have not held talks with Aitor Karanka about their managerial vacancy.
Sunderland have not approached Aitor Karanka
Former Middlesbrough boss Karanka is the bookies’ favourite to take charge of the Championship’s bottom club.
The Spaniard got people talking yesterday when he posted a cryptic message on Twitter.
He uploaded a snap of himself at London Kings Cross train station, with the caption “Next stop…”.
Karanka, who left Middlesbrough in March, still has a house in the north east.
But, according to the Sunderland Echo, the Black Cats have not made an approach for his services.
Karanka is eager to return to management, and is open to staying in England.
He even rejected overtures from La Liga outfit Alaves during the summer.

Speaking on Goals on Sunday in May, Karanka said: "I can’t throw out everything that got me to this point (in my career) so I need a good project.
"I need to be sure that I am arriving at the right place to keep developing my career."
Sunderland are hopeful of appointing a new manager before their home game against Millwall on November 18.
Chief executive Martin Bain has reportedly contacted Luton Town about their boss Nathan Jones.
Ex-Sunderland gaffer Peter Reid and Bain’s pal Ally McCoist have been linked with the role.
