Everton news: David Unsworth confirms intentions to replace Ronald Koeman full-time
EVERTON caretaker manager David Unsworth has officially declared his interest in taking the job permanently.
Everton sack Ronald Koeman after disastrous start to season
Unsworth was handed the reins temporarily this morning after Ronald Koeman was sacked yesterday.
The 44-year-old, who played 304 games for the Toffees during two spells, was in charge of the club’s under-23 side until being asked to step up to the first team.
He will now prepare the side to travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup tomorrow evening (7.45pm).
And Unsworth thinks that if he can string a winning run together he may be given a shot at the job full-time - something he desires.
“I want to manage and the time has come to say that,” Unsworth revealed.

I’ve been given an opportunity hopefully for a run of games. Results from those will dictate any future for me as Everton manager.
“I make no secret of it at all. However, I have a wonderful, wonderful job (already).

"Who wouldn't want this job? It's an amazing football club, has amazing fans and a top job for any manager."
Everton currently reside in the Premier League relegation zone, despite spending an estimated £145million on transfer fees in the summer.
A run of two wins in 13 games, ending with a 5-2 thrashing by Arsenal on Sunday, ultimately cost Koeman his job.
Unsworth has stepped up after previously taking charge of the under-23s
And Unsworth says he understands the pressure of getting positive results sooner rather than later.
"The bottom line for any manager who loses his job is 'did you win enough games?' and unfortunately we haven’t,” Unsworth added.
“It wasn't a difficult decision to make to accept role. It was very easy. I spent yesterday afternoon with the chairman and spoke about everything.
“It’s a tough business, because one day you know that could be you. But I’m a very proud man to be able to lead this team.
“I’m very proud to be asked by the board, but at the same time it's always tough when any manager loses his job.”
