Liverpool news: Loris Karius is not even the Reds' second best goalkeeper - John Aldridge
LIVERPOOL goalkeeper Loris Karius is not even the second best goalkeeper on the Reds’ books.
Liverpool news: Loris Karius is not the second best Reds goalkeeper, says John Aldridge
That is the view of legendary Liverpool striker John Aldridge.
Karius has been used as the Champions League goalkeeper by Jurgen Klopp this season.
The German has also played one Premier League game this term, the 4-0 win over Arsenal in August.
Simon Mignolet has played every other match in the league and is set to start against Manchester United this Saturday at Anfield (12.30pm).
He’s certainly Liverpool’s best goalkeeper at this present moment in time, with Danny Ward perhaps the second
Aldridge believes Mignolet is one of the better shot-stoppers in the English top-flight.
He says the Belgian is Liverpool's best and that Danny Ward, who spent last season on-loan at Huddersfield, is the next in line.
“(David) de Gea’s a top, top goalkeeper,” Aldridge said on Sky Sports.
“I’m a Simon Mignolet fan. I think he gets some unwarranted criticism along the way.
Jamie Redknapp: Liverpool's defence has a lot of problems
Liverpool news: Simon Mignolet is the Reds' best, with Danny Ward second, says John Aldridge
“I think he’s as good as any shot-stopper in the Premier League.
“Okay, one or two attributes of his game are looked at, or scrutinised should I say, every time he makes a mistake.
“But he’s certainly Liverpool’s best goalkeeper at this present moment in time, with Danny Ward perhaps the second.”
Ward has played one game this season, the Carabao Cup loss to Leicester in September.
