Chelsea issue statement on fixture fears; Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal also concerned
CHELSEA have backed their supporters’ fears about potentially playing on Christmas Eve.
Chelsea back supporters' fears about Christmas Eve fixtures
It is understood Sky Sports are considering moving fixtures from December 23 to Christmas Eve to fill their allocated Sunday afternoon slots.
Arsenal’s visit of Liverpool and Manchester United’s trip to Leicester City have been mooted as potential games for live coverage on the Sunday.
All clubs involved are said to be pushing back hard against the proposals.
It has also been suggested that Chelsea’s match against Everton at Stamford Bridge could also be moved.
Earlier this week, the Chelsea Supporters Trust made their feelings on the matter clear, saying "football on Christmas Eve is unacceptable and is a step too far."
The club is sympathetic to our supporters’ objections
And now Chelsea have issued a statement expressing sympathy for the objections, which have been taken up with the Premier League.
The club posted on their official website: “The Chelsea Supporters Trust wrote to the club this week expressing its objections to fixtures being scheduled to be played on Christmas Eve.
“An idea they are opposed to ‘due to the inherent travel difficulties and disruption to what is regarded as sacrosanct family time’.
“The club is sympathetic to our supporters’ objections and it is a subject we have raised with the Premier League.”
