Liverpool news: Jamie Carragher slams Jurgen Klopp's defence against 'streetwise' players
JAMIE CARRAGHER has slammed Liverpool’s defence and accused of them of failing to deal with "streetwise" players such as Jamie Vardy.
Jamie Vardy caused Liverpool problems on Saturday
Liverpool avenged their Carabao Cup defeat in the third round to Leicester last week, by beating the Foxes 3-2.
Philippe Coutinho, who was back in the starting line-up, got on the scoresheet, bending home a stunning free-kick.
However, after going 3-1 ahead, they were given a nervy 20 minutes or so when Jamie Vardy headed into the net.
The Reds were thrashed 3-1 by Leicester in the corresponding fixture last term, with Vardy helping himself to two that day at the King Power Stadium.
Vardy was too quick for Matip - he wasn’t being streetwise
And former Liverpool defender-turned-pundit Carragher believes Jurgen Klopp’s biggest problem is trying to get his side to contain the "streetwise’" players.
“I’m sure on the back of last season when Vardy had Liverpool’s defence on toast running behind them, scoring twice and the game finished 3-1, surely in the team talk before the game, his pace would have been the top agenda," Carragher told Sky Sports' Monday Night Football.
“They had problems four minutes into Saturday’s game - I expected to see this with 15 minutes to go if Liverpool were losing.

“I played as a full-back, but Joe Gomez should have gone back.
“Vardy was too quick for Matip - he wasn’t being streetwise.
“4 minutes into the game Liverpool found themselves in a two v two against Vardy and in given positions, he’s probably one of the best strikers in the league.”
Liverpool, who are up to fifth in the Premier League table, face Spartak Moscow (7.45pm) on Tuesday in their second Champions League group game.
