Liverpool news: Philippe Coutinho free-kicks show he should have joined Barca - Redknapp
JAMIE REDKNAPP has jokingly admitted Philippe Coutinho should have left Liverpool for Barcelona, because he is worried about losing his free-kick record.
Philippe Coutinho has now scored four free-kick goals for Liverpool in the Premier League
Coutinho was the subject of fierce interest from Barcelona during the summer transfer window, and the Catalan giants had three bids, including one of £118million, rebuffed.
The Brazilian, who has slowly been re-integrated back into the first team, hit his first Premier League goal this term with a free-kick in the 3-2 win away to Leicester on Saturday.
The 25-year-old’s strike was his fourth goal from a set-piece, and he is only four behind Redknapp’s record.
And Redknapp has explained he is slightly worried Coutinho is not far behind him.
Maybe he should have gone to Barcelona after all
“While finding out how many free-kicks Philippe [Coutinho] had scored for Liverpool after his stunner against Leicester, I was astonished to learn that I am still Anfield's Premier League free-kick king,” Redknapp told the Daily Mail.
“I scored eight free-kicks in the league during my time at Liverpool, one more than Steven Gerrard.
“I reckon I could have reached double figures had Robbie Fowler not kept taking them off me!

Liverpool’s victory over the Foxes was their first in five in all competitions.
The Reds, who are now back up to fifth in the Premier League table, travel to face Spartak Moscow in their second Champions League group game tomorrow (7.45pm).
