Premier League yellow cards: Which stars are closest to a one-match ban for 5 bookings?
PREMIER LEAGUE players have to be on their best behaviour to avoid a suspension for picking up five yellow cards – but who is closest to receiving a ban?
Which Premier League players are closest to picking up a ban for five yellow cards?
The Premier League employs a complicated set of suspension rules to govern the behaviour of players throughout the season, with yellow card deadlines placed periodically throughout the campaign.
If a player receives five yellow cards before December 31, they will automatically be handed a one-match ban.
After this date players are not penalised until they receive their tenth booking of the campaign, when they are hit with a two-game suspension.
There is another yellow card amnesty in April, whereafter a player is slapped with a three-match ban if they pick up 15 bookings before the end on the season.
(As a side note, the really badly behaved players who pick up 20 yellow cards in a campaign are required to attend an FA disciplinary hearing.)
