Manchester United breezed past Burton Albion at Old Trafford with a 4-1 win as they reached the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
The holders were rampant with Marcus Rashford scoring a brace and Lingard and Anthony Martial also getting in on the act.
Lloyd Dyer netted in added time, but his effort proved to be merely a consolation as Nigel Clough's side bowed out.
But Lingard's goal has been called into question with his effort after 36 minutes taking a wicked deflection before finding the net.
Of course I'm claiming it - I don't mind how they go in, as long as I get a goal
However, the England international has claimed nobody is going to take away the plaudits from him.
When asked whether it was his goal, Lingard told MUTV: "Of course I'm claiming it - I don't mind how they go in, as long as I get a goal."
The Manchester United academy graduate also heaped praise on Marcus Rashford for his impressive performance.
Rashford, 19, scored twice in the first 17 minutes with both goals expressing his credentials as a top talent.

He instinctively chipped his first effort into the net before lashing his second in off the post from 20 yards out.
Lingard added: "He's bound to score goals and he has got the pace to beat players and he has got the composure in front of goal as well."
Up next for United in the Carabao Cup is a clash with Swansea at the Liberty Stadium on the week commencing October 23.
