Andrea Radrizzani reveals bizarre Leeds transfer clause in contract offered to Chris Wood
LEEDS owner Andrea Radrizzani says the club offered Chris Wood "strong financial terms" to stay at Elland Road for another season.
Chris Wood offered strong financial terms to stay at Leeds
Wood today completed a £15million move to Burnley, citing Premier League football as a key factor in his decision.
Radrizzani has revealed Leeds tabled a contract with a release clause lower than the fee Burnley paid to offer the New Zealand international a way out should they fail to gain promotion this season.
But Wood was determined to make the step up this summer - and Leeds' hands were tied with the 25-year-old striker's contact expiring in a year's time.
Wood, who put pen to paper on a four-year contract at Burnley, scored 44 goals in 88 appearances since joining in July 2015.
We offered the player reasonable exit clauses
Radrizzani said: "We offered the player strong financial terms including reasonable exit clauses, lower than the fee we demanded for a transfer this summer, should the club not reach the Premier League in a certain timeframe.
"However the player’s preference was to leave Leeds United.

"And as he only had one year left on his contract after this season we had to protect the club and ensure we did not sell Chris below our valuation.
"Supporters can rest assured that monies generated from the sale of Chris Wood will be reinvested into adding to the 12 signings we have made already."
