Arsenal slumped to a 1-0 defeat away to Stoke at the bet365 Stadium earlier this evening.
Jese, a summer signing from Paris Saint-Germain, supplied the winning goal to cap off an excellent debut for the Potters.
The Gunners’ defensive frailties were exposed once again, but they were arguably unlucky to see Alexandre Lacazette’s effort ruled out for offside which would have been theequaliser.
And Gerrard was baffled by how some Gunners players failed to put a shift in.
“I thought the performance was typical Arsenal,” Gerrard told BT Sport.
Jese Rodriguez enjoyed an excellent debut against Arsenal
They were fantastic in possession and created lot of chances, but were passive out of possession
“They were fantastic in possession and created lot of chances, but were passive out of possession and there were not enough people who wanted to put their bodies on the line.
“There were not enough that wanted to the dirty work and run back and rescue difficult situations.
“It seems Arsenal have got too many technical players.
Steven Gerrard was mystified by Arsenal's performance
“They need a couple of players with steel that are willing to do the other side of game and break it up.
“Otherwise it will just look nice and they will just have more results and performances like this.”
Arsenal have dropped to 11th in the Premier league table courtesy of their loss.
