Man Utd must win league: Fourth not good enough for Jose Mourinho – Gary Neville
MANCHESTER UNITED must win the Premier League this season after spending nearly £150million on new signings this summer.
Gerrard, Lineker and Lampard give PL title predictions
That is the view of former Manchester United right-back and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville.
Jose Mourinho led the Red Devils to a disappointing sixth in the league last season but qualified for the Champions League by winning the Europa League.
The additions of Romelu Lukaku, Victor Lindelof and Nemanja Matic in the transfer window means the Portuguese boss has spent near enough £300million since being appointed last summer.
Ahead of today's season opener against West Ham at Old Trafford, Neville has piled the pressure on his former side by saying finishing fourth would not be good enough for them.
Manchester United must win the league under Jose Mourinho, says Gary Neville
Man Utd have to win the league. Jose Mourinho has to win the league here
“You can’t just drop your expectation because they haven’t won it for a couple of years,” Neville said.
“They have to win the league. Mourinho has to win the league here.
“The money that’s been spent, his own personal expectations and what he’s always delivered has been titles, so I would say United have to approach this season to win the league.
Gary Neville says fourth would not be good enough for Man Utd or Jose Mourinho this season
“I don’t think it’s good enough to say ‘they’re going to get back into fourth’.
“That isn’t an ambition when you’ve spent the money that’s been spent and amassed the players that Mourinho has now amassed.”
Manchester United's last league triumph came in 2013, Sir Alex Ferguson's final season in charge at Old Trafford.
