Paul Ince gives his verdict on the Premier League games
In our exclusive prediction special, in association with Paddy Power, Ince gives his verdict on the Premier League games.
Arsenal 3-1 Leicester
10/1 with Paddy Power
I watched Arsenal a bit on tour, and Alex Lacazette is going to score goals for them. I sense they’ve got a bit of confidence from winning the FA Cup last season, and then beating Chelsea again in the Community Shield last week. That’s not to say Leicester are a bad team – I really like the signing of Kelechi Iheanacho – but Arsenal should be right on it. Wenger’s signed a new contract, all those problems and doubts around him are long gone, so I fancy them for a strong start.
Watford 0-3 Liverpool
11/1 with Paddy Power
You’ve got to go for Liverpool. Watford’s been a tough place to go to for them but I did the Bayern vs Liverpool game in the Audi Cup, and the front four were outstanding – the movement between Mane, Salah, Firminio and Coutinho, they’re different class. They should have too much for Watford.
Chelsea 4-0 Burnley
11/1 with Paddy Power
If you go back to last season, Burnley’s home record was phenomenal, it was what kept them up. Their away record was diabolical. With Chelsea being at home, I think they will win comfortably.
Mohamed Salah is Liverpool's record signing coming in at £37m
Everton 2–0 Stoke
13/2 with Paddy Power
Everton have spent a lot of money in the window, and there could be even more if they sign Gylfi Sigurdsson. I saw them in the Europa League, and they weren’t great. Lukaku is going to be a big miss, while Sandro is yet to be tested. But I expect them to have a bit too much for Stoke, especially after the Potters lost Arnautovic.
Southampton 2-1 Swansea
7/1 with Paddy Power
A tough one to predict, but I think Southampton will edge it virtue of being at home. Manolo Gabbiadini is going to be so important to them this season – while missing Fernando Llorente will be a big loss for the Swans.
Romelu Lukaku left Everton for Manchester United in a £75m deal
West Brom 1-1 Bournemouth
5/1 with Paddy Power
This is an interesting one. You know what you get from West Brom, especially at home – they’re hard to beat, and score a lot of goals from set pieces. Bournemouth are completely different, they like to get the ball down to play. It’s hard to know where each team will be at, so I’ll go for a draw here.
Brighton 1–3 Man City
9/1 with Paddy Power
It’s a tough start for Brighton, but there are no easy games in the Premier League. Getting City at home will be what Brighton fans would’ve wanted, to play against the best teams. It’s a baptism of fire, but also a good game for them – the players will be well up for it. City will be right up there this season though, knowing how Chrissy Hughton sets his teams up, I think there’ll be goals.
Kyle Walker says he is a little nervous to work under Guardiola
Jose Mourinho will be hoping to win the Premier League in his second year in charge of Man Utd
Newcastle 1-2 Tottenham
7/1 with Paddy Power
It should be a good one, this. When you look at Rafa, there’s a lot of frustration that he hasn’t got the targets he wants to get in – and Tottenham haven’t got what they want, either. They’ll be short, but their first eleven is as good as anyone in the division. It won’t be easy, but I think Spurs will go up there and win. They’ll have just too much.
Man United 3-1 West Ham
10/1 with Paddy Power
I watched West Ham play City last week, and they were torn to bits, to be fair – they were beaten very comfortably. United, on the other hand, have looked good, despite a tough pre-season with games against the top sides. I thought they looked good against Real Madrid in the Super Cup and expect them to improve again on Sunday.
