When asked about Keita's proposed move to Liverpool on Twitter, Marcotti wrote: "That's my understanding... agreement in principle on wages/contract length.
"Realise though that they would still need to agree with Leipzig and agreements in principle only matter so much."
Keita revealed this week Liverpool had made an approach for him last summer, along with a host of other Premier League sides.
When asked which clubs had made an approach, he told German newspaper Die Welt: "Arsenal, Southampton, Manchester City and Liverpool."
"Although I did not talk with the coach [Klopp]."
Keita is under contract with Leipzig until June 2022 but has admitted he has ambitions to leave the club.
"I hope, however, that I have the level in two, three years and could play for one of the very big clubs," Keita said.
"This includes Barcelona, but it also includes Real Madrid or Manchester City."
