Jurgen Klopp on Liverpool’s win over West Brom: I would have been happy if this happened
JURGEN KLOPP has given his thoughts on Alberto Moreno's shocking miss for Liverpool.
Alberto Moreno missed a golden opportunity to get on the scoresheet
Moreno, who has been sparingly used by Jurgen Klopp this season, replaced Philippe Coutinho in stoppage time during Liverpool's 1-0 win over West Brom yesterday.
The Spaniard had a chance to get on the scoresheet after Ben Foster went up for a corner as the Baggies searched for a last-gasp equaliser.
After a swift counter-attack and with the hosts’ goal unguarded, Moreno screwed an effort wide from 40 yards out when he could have squared it to Daniel Sturridge.
Jurgen Klopp says he would have been happy to see Alberto Moreno score
I would have been happy for him, actually, if he’d scored this goal
But Klopp refused to blame Moreno for failing to convert the chance.
“I told him after the game ‘I know everyone thinks you can play in Daniel Sturridge, but actually he would have been offside’,” Klopp said.
“Maybe there was another option that I didn’t see, I’d have to watch it again, but it’s completely normal in a situation like this, you think you have to do this [shoot].
Alberto Moreno attempts to recreate Daniel Sturridge’s celebration dance
“He had a difficult few weeks but last week was really good and he deserved a few minutes, it was only a few minutes but that’s good. He’s a good boy, really.
“I would have been happy for him, actually, if he’d scored this goal, but [there was] excitement until the end, which is pretty much always way it is when we are involved.”
