And Stam has admitted he is aware of the rumours and is delighted to be linked with a move to the Hammers.
"I am aware of it [West Ham's interest]," Stam said.
"That is what happens. What happens next season, happens next season.
"It is nice to be recognised.
"I do not know if it is true – everyone wants recognition."
Stam honed his managerial skills at his former club Ajax, working as assistant manager in 2013 before spending two years in charge of their youth team.
