The Gunners boss has been offered a new two-year deal to stay at the Emirates beyond this season.
However, Arsenal’s recent slump has seen the mood change at the north London club, with some fans calling for the Frenchman to go.
A title challenge is all but over, and Arsene Wenger will only continue if he believes he is still wanted by supporters.
As a result, a fear is growing at the club the 67-year-old will call time on Arsenal, and a short-list of alternatives has now been drawn up.

According to the Mirror, Borussia Dortmund manager Tuchel is the Gunners’ favourite to take charge with four men being eyed.
Juventus’ Max Allegri is on Arsenal’s radar and is keen on the role, having not ruled out a switch this week.
Meanwhile, Monaco’s Leonardo Jardim has impressed and Bayer Leverkusen’s Roger Schmidt is also a surprise inclusion.
It is claimed in the report that discreet enquiries have been made about all four’s potential suitability.

But 43-year-old Tuchel heads the list, having built a solid reputation in the Bundesliga since succeeding Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
There is also said to be a feeling he could be persuaded to leave Germany for Arsenal.
Much depends on Arsenal’s end to the season over whether Wenger will stay or leave, and his next test comes at home to improving Hull tomorrow (12.30pm).
