Hourihane has been a key figure for Barnsley since moving to the club from Plymouth in 2014, scoring 26 goals in his first two seasons and captaining the club to promotion last term.
He has continued his fine form this campaign after bagging five goals and 11 assists for the Yorkshire club.
But with his contract set to expire this summer he has been the subject of major interest and Villa look set to benefit as Bruce looks set to complete a double deal.
