The Spaniard was dropped from Chelsea’s matchday squad on Saturday as the Blues ran out 3-0 winners over Leicester.
Reports suggested Diego Costa hadn’t trained for several days amid concerns over a back injury.
There was also thought to have been a heated row between Antonio Conte and Costa at the training ground.
And while Chelsea clearly didn’t miss their star striker in the trip to the King Power Stadium, Neville admits Conte could have had a lot to answer for had they not picked up all three points.

“I was speaking to a couple of Chelsea players a few weeks back," Neville told Sky Sports.
"They were saying ‘Costa is fantastic in training every single day - his spirit and personality is back'.

“I wondered how it would impact their performance against Leicester and fair do's to them.
"You could have switched off after the first goal as you knew they were going to win. They were in control. They were solid. If they lost, then Conte would have had serious questions to answer.”
Express Sport understands Costa will stay with Chelsea until the the end of the season before considering his future.
