Joel Matip: Why Liverpool's point against Southampton isn't a bad result
JOEL MATIP has insisted Liverpool can live with their 0-0 draw at Southampton yesterday.
Klopp: There is a lot of positivity at LFC
Liverpool had only failed to score in two games this season prior to the clash at St Mary's - a 2-0 defeat to Burnley and the 0-0 draw with Manchester United.
And having scored 14 goals in their previous four games many were expecting Liverpool to continue their goalscoring exploits.
But Southampton proved too tough for Liverpool's forwards to break down with both sides settling for a draw.
Joel Matip was delighted to have kept a clean sheet
Matip came within inches of scoring his second Liverpool goal
The point failed to dislodge Liverpool as the league leaders but they could drop to second if Chelsea beat Middlesbrough today (4.30pm).
Matip however remained upbeat about the result against Southampton and preferred to concentrate on the positives.
"[It's] a point away at a good team," Matip told Liverpoolfc.com.
Klopp also said it was a good point against a Southampton side who also drew with Manchester City
"We had a few chances but we can't always score three or four goals.
"It's okay; one point at Southampton, we can live with this!
"For a defender it's always good to have a clean sheet and not to concede a goal but we always want to win."
