Former Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood named Swindon Town's new director of football
TIM SHERWOOD has been appointed as director of football at League One side Swindon Town.
Tim Sherwood's last job was manager of Aston Villa
Sherwood had been linked with the vacant QPR manager position in recent weeks but has now been named as Swindon's new director of football.
The former Tottenham boss has been without a job since being sacked by Aston Villa in October 2015.
The 47-year-old arrives at Swindon with the club currently in the League One relegation zone after just two wins from their last 12 outings.
Swindon manager Luke Williams will remain in his role at the club
Club chairman Lee Power voiced his surprise at being able to convince Sherwood to join Swindon but insisted manager Luke Williams will remain in his role.
"This is one of the biggest appointments the club has ever made," Power told BBC Wiltshire.
"We're still a bit shocked that we've been able to persuade him to take the role.
"We're very mindful not to use the title 'manager' - it's not a demotion for Luke Williams. He'll be head coach still. Tim will be running training, alongside (Luke)."

And Sherwood went on to explain what his director of football role would entail.
"I like this club. I've got a soft spot for it. This is a good opportunity for me to get back onto the training field," Sherwood said.
"I started this morning. I'll be in the dressing room, I'll be talking to the boys and giving them some words of wisdom.
"We need everyone on side, to come back through those gates, to help the boys out."
