Joey Barton to leave Rangers: Midfielder and club close to agreement to cut ties
RANGERS are on the verge of reaching a deal to pay off “stressed” Joey Barton.
Joey Barton is close to an agreement to leave Rangers
Express Sport understands negotiations are now at an advanced stage to agree controversial midfielder Barton’s exit from Ibrox.
The 34-year-old returned to Rangers training ground last Thursday after being suspended by the club in September following a training ground bust-up with team-mate Andy Halliday and manager Mark Warburton.
The row with Warburton came just days after Rangers suffered a 5-1 hammering to Old Firm rivals Celtic on September 10 and he was banished from the training ground.
Joey Barton hasn't played for Rangers since September 10
After returning from his lengthy suspension Barton was ordered to train with the Gers kids at their Auchenhowie base and despite him repeatedly stating that he wanted to stay and fight for his Ibrox career it quickly became clear he had no future at the club.
But Barton’s saga took another twist as it is understood the former Manchester City and Newcastle United ace has not been seen at the Rangers complex since last Thursday after providing the club with a doctor’s note as he was signed off with stress.
Barton was expected to depart Ibrox when the transfer window opened in January but his impending exit is now set to be sealed before then.
