Man United boss Jose Mourinho should be punished this way, claims former referees’ chief
MANCHESTER UNITED boss Jose Mourinho should consider it harsh if he doesn’t get a touchline ban.
Jose Mourinho - 5 things you need to know
Those are the thoughts of former referees’ chief Keith Hackett.
Mourinho was sent to the stands during United’s goalless draw at home to Burnley on Saturday after losing his cool when Mark Clattenburg failed to award his side a penalty.
The Portuguese tactician, Express Sport understands, is facing a two-game stadium ban for his actions.

But Hackett, a former Premier League official, thinks a touchline ban is a more suitable punishment.
“We really are reluctant as referees to dismiss a manager and, when we do, we also expect them to go to an area like the directors’ box,” Hackett told the Daily Telegraph.
“What Mourinho did was effectively walk a few paces and take a seat, this was another difficulty the match officials had to get involved with.

“The FA will now ask for Mourinho’s observations and I think he has now got to sit on his hands somewhere in the stands.
“A touchline ban appears to me to be the right level of punishment.
“I also believe that the FA should, as part of its sanctions, sometimes use the more draconian stadium ban for more serious offences.

“I am also sure that the FA will take on board the post-match comments of Mourinho’s assistant Rui Faria.”
Should Mourinho be awarded a stadium ban, he would have to stay away from Premier League games against Swansea and Arsenal.
