Manchester United star defends Chelsea troublemaker Diego Costa
MANCHESTER UNITED goalkeeper David de Gea has leapt to the defence of Chelsea striker Diego Costa.
Diego Costa vs Leonardo Bonucci
The two Spain internationals helped their country draw 1-1 with Italy in a World Cup qualifier on Thursday night.
However, Costa drew criticism for a petulant display that saw him booked for hitting Leonardo Bonucci and narrowly avoid a red for kicking the ball away.
And De Gea reckons that Costa doesn't need taming - because his abrasive style of play makes Spain a stronger team.
“It's just his way of playing, it's very aggressive,” said De Gea.
“He always likes to run behind the defence and he is just playing the same game here as he does with his team. He contributes a lot to the team."
De Gea and Costa are expected to feature when Spain face Albania tonight (7.45pm).
