Rangers suspend Joey Barton: Midfielder banished following talks with Mark Warburton
RANGERS have suspended Joey Barton for three weeks following his aggressive training ground bust-up.
Joey Barton has been suspended by Rangers for three weeks
Barton, a summer signing from Burnley, was sent away from training last week after a heated argument with Andy Halliday following the Old Firm defeat.
But the midfielder, 34, returned to Ibrox this morning to meet manager Mark Warburton and the board to discuss his future and see if an agreement could be reached.
And the club have released a statement saying he has now been suspended for three weeks.
"Joey Barton has today been suspended by the club and will not return to Ibrox or Auchenhowie for a period of three weeks," the statement read.
"The manager, Mark Warburton, and club believe that time and space is required for both the club and the player to assess all that has happened.
"Neither party will make any further statement or comment on this issue."
Barton will miss the next three weeks after being suspended by the club
Barton went on live radio last week to say his treatment was strange and that he needed to re-evalute his situation after being sent home from training.
Since joining Rangers he has struggled on the pitch and was dominated by Scott Brown in the Old Firm despite saying he would be the best player in the country.
He has played eight times and is the club's highest earner on £20,000-a-week.
Barton missed Saturday's goalless draw with Ross County and will now miss the next three games as Rangers bid to get their season back on track.
Warburton will face the media ahead of the league cup clash with Queen of the South today but is not expected to talk about Barton.
