Grosicki is said to have attracted the attention of Everton earlier in the summer.
Reports in France claimed the Toffees made a bid of £6.6million in June for the winger but had it rejected.
It will take Sean Dyche’s total spending in the window past the £30m mark after he paid a club record fee of £10m for Geoff Hendrick from Derby.
But the Burnley boss failed with his sixth bid for Brighton midfielder Dale Stephens earlier today and was forced to explore other options.
Grosicki arrived at Rennes two years ago from Turkish side Sivasspor and was part of the side that made a shock run to the final of the Coupe de France.
The 28-year-old also has 44 caps for Poland and grabbed two assists for his country during their run to the quarter-finals of Euro 2016.
