Vardy got off the mark by emphatically finishing a sweet Leicester move.
Captain Wes Morgan doubled the lead before Riyad Mahrez saw a penalty saved by Lukasz Fabianski and Leroy Fer headed a goal back for Swansea late on.
Relieved Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri said: “The goalscorer always scores a goal.
“It is good, three points and a first victory for us and I am very, very happy. It is 100 wins and now I want another 100.”
Leicester enjoyed a period of sustained pressure in the first half that saw Danny Drinkwater glance a header across the face of goal and a Vardy shot scrambled clear.
But Swansea reminded them they were a threat on the break and Gylfi Sigurdsson worked keeper Kasper Schmeichel either side of the half-hour mark.

In the 32nd minute, Drinkwater dropped a pass behind the Swansea defence, Vardy out-paced Jordi Amat and blasted in his shot via the near post.
Then seven minutes after the restart the ball ricocheted into the path of Morgan, who hammered home.
Amat brought down Shinji Okazaki after 56 minutes but Mahrez’s penalty was brilliantly saved by Fabianski.
With nine minutes remaining, Fer brilliantly powered in his header into the bottom corner of the net.
