Son shines for Mellors
NORWICH 2 PRESTON 2
PRESTON striker Neil Mellor scored a stunning late equaliser as his parents watched proudly in the stands.
But their son’s superb 25-yard shot into the top corner after 81 minutes left the couple with mixed emotions, as staunch Norwich fans.
Winger Ian Mellor played 43 games for the Canaries in the 1970s and son Neil, above, said: “Dad had some great times at Norwich and they still have a lot of friends in the area.
“Norwich are still a club we all hold close to our hearts. We all still look out for their results and want them to do well. But I have to draw the line when I’m playing against them.”
Another former Canary, striker Chris Brown, gave Preston a second-minute lead but loanees Leroy Lita and John Kennedy put the hosts in front, before Darel Russell foolishly collected a straight red card and Mellor saved the visitors a point.
