Arsenal add Villarreal ace to three player defensive shortlist
ARSENAL have reportedly added Villarreal's Mateo Musacchio to their list of potential new defenders.
Mateo Musacchio has been linked with a move to Arsenal
The Gunners are on the lookout for a new centre-back following injuries to Per Mertesacker and Gabriel.
Inexperienced youngsters Calum Chambers and Rob Holding started at centre-back in the Gunners opening weekend defeat to Liverpool, while Laurent Koscielny returned to face Leicester on Saturday.
Arsene Wenger's No 1 target is Valencia's Shkodran Mustafi, although a deal for the Germany World Cup winner appears to have stalled.
And the Telegraph claim the Gunners are now considering a move for Musacchio.
The report claims the 25-year-old is one of three targets for Wenger, alongside Roma’s Kostas Manolas and an unnamed third defender.
Musacchio partnered new Manchester United defender Eric Bailly at the back for Villarreal last season.
And the Spanish club are unwilling to sell another of their key defenders during the transfer window.
Manolas, who is under contract with Roma until 2019, has also been linked with a move to Chelsea this summer.
