Arsenal considering shock move for Newcastle centre-back
ARSENAL are reportedly considering a shock move for Newcastle centre-back Chancel Mbemba.
Chancel Mbemba has been linked with a move to Arsenal
The Gunners are on the lookout for a new centre-back following injuries to Per Mertesacker and Gabriel.
Inexperienced youngsters Calum Chambers and Rob Holding started at centre-back in the Gunners opening weekend defeat to Liverpool, while Laurent Koscielny returned to face Leicester on Saturday.
Arsene Wenger's No 1 target is Valencia's Shkodran Mustafi, although a deal for the Germany World Cup winner appears to have stalled.
And now HITC Sport claim Wenger has turned his attention to Newcastle's Mbemba.
A source told HITC Sport: "Mbemba is very much on Arsenal's radar now, they have already done their homework and know the price - it would not be a complicated deal to get over the line."
The DR Congo international only joined the Magpies last summer for £8million.
Despite Newcastle's relegation, Mbemba impressed last term, and the Tyneside club will now demand an offer in excess of £15m for the defender.
