Rangers boss Mark Warburton hits out at Aston Villa chairman over Lescott's snub
RANGERS boss Mark Warburton blasted Aston Villa chairman Tony Xia last night over claims that Joleon Lescott snubbed a move to Ibrox over personal terms.
Mark Warburton was furious with claims made by the Aston Villa chairman
Warburton insists the former England centre-back chose not to sign because he did not want to uproot his young family.
Xia took to Twitter to claim it was all about cash, but Warburton said: “Let me be really clear on this, it’s absolute nonsense.
“The personal terms were all agreed, it’s nothing to do with that.
“The player decided to keep his family in Manchester.
“He’s well settled with three young children, it’s absolute nonsense to say anything other than that.
It was Kenny Miller who snatched the 2-1 victory which keeps Rangers top of the table and Warburton reckons they earned it despite not being at their best.
He said: “Our first half performance wasn’t acceptable but we were much better in the second half.
“We didn’t get in behind them enough so we didn’t earn anything in the first half and we conceded a poor goal.
“We had more tempo in the second half and we mounted wave after wave and we got our reward.
“We were below par overall but we got three points and we’ll take that.”
