Leeds United rival Sheffield Wednesday for midfielder amid Italian takeover talks
LEEDS UNITED are reportedly interested in signing Birmingham midfielder Stephen Gleeson - while speculation grows over a proposed takeover of the Elland Road club.
Leeds reportedly want to sign Stephen Gleeson as a group consider buying the club
Leeds boss Garry Monk has already signed a host of players this summer as he seeks to secure Premier League promotion.
Sheffield Wednesday are also supposed suitors of 28-year-old Gleeson, who has played in both of Birmingham’s games this term.
And the Yorkshire Post claim the two Championship sides are gearing up to make bids before deadline day.
Leeds takeover reports
United owner Massimo Cellino has backed Monk in the transfer window but reports have emerged linking the club with a takeover bid from Italian businessman Andrea Radrizzani.
According to the claims, Radrizzani is interested in the West Yorkshire club and confirmed talks have taken place.
“I don’t have any update to provide related to Leeds,” Radrizzani said.
“At the moment there is nothing concrete and (only a) simple conversation to understand the club better.”

Radrizzani is one of the founders of £600m-valued media rights company MP & Silva.
But he is not the only group supposedly interested in buying into Leeds, with Harrogate-born businessman Steve Tappin also confirming his interest last month.
Leeds face Birmingham at home in the Championship tomorrow, with some fans still nervously waiting for their season tickets to arrive.
The club this week apologised for the delay, blaming a “manufacturing problem” with the ticket supplier.
