Former Man Utd boss Van Gaal told to lower wage demands for Belgium job
LOUIS VAN GAAL is reportedly an early contender for the vacant Belgium post.
Louis van Gaal is reportedly being considered for the Belgium job
The Red Devils, as they are known, dispensed with Marc Wilmots yesterday following their poor Euro 2016 campaign.
Belgium were expected to go deep into the tournament, but they were knocked out at the quarter-final stage.
And it seems the Belgian FA are keen to make a swift appointment with a number of candidates being considered.
The Sun reports Van Gaal, who has international experience, having previously guided Holland to the semi-finals of the World Cup two summers ago, is on their shortlist.
But should he wish to become their next manager, he would have to accept a payout.
Belgian FA chief, Lingard Gerard, said: “We do not have the budget of France, Spain or Germany and Louis van Gaal has high wages which are not within our budget.
“To become Belgium manager, he needs to lower his wages.”
Van Gaal, who was sacked as manager of Manchester United, has been out of work since May.
Should he land the Belgium job, he will be tasked with trying to revive the so-called ‘Golden Generation’ as the team contains a host of star-studded talent, including Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku and Kevin de Bruyne.
