Marko Grujic granted work permit after successful plea from Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp
LIVERPOOL'S Serbian youngster Marko Grujic has been granted a work permit to begin his Anfield career following a personal plea from manager Jurgen Klopp.
Marko Grujic signed for Liverpool for £5.1m in the January window last season
Klopp attended a hearing in front of a three-man panel convened by the Football Association in Manchester today in which he spoke up on behalf of Grujic, 20.
It is the first time Liverpool have appeared in front of a work permit panel since they signed Philippe Coutinho in January 2013.
Grujic received a ‘governing body endorsement’, although red tape means he must leave the country and may not be available for Liverpool’s opening pre-season friendly against Tranmere on Friday night.
Midfielder Grujic signed in January for £5.1m from Red Star Belgrade and was immediately loaned back to the club.
Liverpool beat off competition from the likes of Chelsea and Inter Milan in order to recruit the youngster.
