Everton agree record £30m deal for international midfielder: Chelsea also interested
EVERTON have agreed to break their transfer record with a £30million deal for Axel Witsel, according to reports.
Axel Witsel
Witsel joined current club Zenit St Petersburg from Benfica in a move worth around £32m.
And the Belgium international, whose side will face Wales in a Euro 2016 quarter-final in Lille tonight (8pm), has been a key figure for the Russian side with more than 150 appearances.
But according to Squawka, the Toffees have had a bid accepted of £30m for Witsel whom Ronald Koeman wants to make his first signing at the club.
But with no progress on a deal for Nainggolan the Stamford Bridge have been forced to look elsewhere with Witsel said to be a real possibility.
Reports even emerged earlier this week claiming Liverpool were interested in him with Zenit expecting Manchester United to make a bid as well.
However, it now appears Everton are firm favourites to land Witsel as they look to move into a post-Roberto Martinez era.
