Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller immediately signalled for medical attention and after some treatment he was helped off the pitch.
And the German FA confirmed the injury after an MRI scan was taken. It means he is out of Euro 2016 and could miss at least six months of football, scuppering any summer move.
Germany’s first group match of the tournament is against Ukraine on Sunday.
