Liverpool's new signing issues stern warning to team-mate
LORIS KARIUS has warned Simon Mignolet that he will be fighting to take his No.1 spot at Liverpool.
Loris Karius hopes to be Liverpool's No.1 next season
Liverpool completed the £4.7million signing of Karius from Mainz last week.
He has been handed the No.1 shirt for next season and the 22-year-old is keen to force his way into Jurgen Klopp's starting XI.
“My goalkeeping style is very modern,” he said. “(It’s) offensive and also with a bit of risk, something that I’m willing to take.
“I wanted the no.1 shirt because I was wearing it at Mainz – and I want to be the no.1 here at Liverpool.”
Mignolet only signed a new long-term deal earlier this year but his performances have been questioned at times.
And former defender Dietmar Hamann reckons Karius can do enough to dethrone Mignolet come the start of the season.
Loris Karius - 5 things you need to know
“Germany has a history of outstanding goalkeepers, and Karius is very talented,” Hamann said.
“Playing for Mainz and playing for Liverpool are two different things.
“His task is to make that step up to the next level.
“I was a bit surprised when I saw the photos that he has been given the no.1 shirt, but I think he will start the season as Liverpool’s number one goalkeeper.”
