Real Madrid star: Why I rejected Manchester United
SERGIO RAMOS has admitted he is glad a proposed move to Manchester United fell through last summer as he prepares to captain Real Madrid in the Champions League final.
Manchester United wanted to sign Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos last summer
Ramos, 30, was thought to be close to completing a big-money deal at United but the two clubs could not agree a fee.
The centre-half has gone on to enjoy a strong season at the Bernabeu and could claim his second Champions League medal in three years on Saturday.
United, meanwhile, have had a campaign of turmoil and on Monday sacked manager Louis van Gaal for his failure to secure Champions League football for next season.
Express Sport understands United are set to appoint Jose Mourinho as their new manager.
And the Portuguese has already requested a meeting to discuss transfers, with a centre-back and three midfielders on his priority list, as well as striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
United signed just one defender last summer in Italian Matteo Darmian and Mourinho is reportedly chasing Everton's John Stones.

"Any player in the world who shines wants to come to Madrid.
"Madrid pays the very high fees, everybody wants to come here. You have to live with these things."
