Manchester United target Sanches signs for Bayern: Club chief explains what happened
BAYERN MUNICH CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has praised the club's scouting network for helping beat off Manchester United to sign Renato Sanches from Benfica.
Renato Sanches has joined Bayern Munich over Manchester United
Sanches has penned a five-year contract at the Bundesliga champions despite keen interest from United.
The Red Devils sent scouts to watch his performances in Portugal's top flight and were reportedly ready to make a £63million bid.
We are fortunate to have signed him to our club in spite of well-known international competition
But Bayern have swooped in on a substantially cheaper £27.6m deal and today announced Sanches' arrival.
"Renato Sanches has been observed over a long period of time by FC Bayern," said Karl-Heinz Rummenigge on Bayern's website.
"We are fortunate to have signed him to our club in spite of well-known international competition.
"Renato is a dynamic, combative and technically gifted midfielder who will strengthen our team further."
