Chelsea powerless to prevent transfer: Barcelona hijack Real Madrid's £50m pursuit
THIBAUT COURTOIS wants to quit Chelsea, with Barcelona lined up to sign the Belgium international, according to reports in Spain.
Mundo Deportivo claim Barcelona want to sign Thibaut Courtois
Courtois, 23, is said to be seeking an exit from the Stamford Bridge club after their failures in the league and Europe this season.
According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, the stopper is unhappy that Chelsea have not won a trophy this campaign.
He is also reportedly disappointed that Chelsea will not compete in the Champions League next season, with a move to Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain two other options open to him.
Real in particular were thought to have begun work on a deal to bring Courtois to the Spanish capital, having initially been quoted £73million to sign him.
Courtois has experience playing in La Liga, having enjoyed three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid before heading back to Chelsea to take over from Cech between the sticks.
It is claimed Emenalo already has two men lined up to replace Courtois - Southampton's Fraser Forster and Jack Butland of Stoke.
Thibaut Courtois - 5 things you need to know
But incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte would prefer to keep his current first-choice goalkeeper, who is expected to star for Belgium at Euro 2016 this summer.
Chelsea are under no pressure to sell - with Courtois contracted to the club until 2019 - but the opportunity to sign an England international in Butland or Forster for considerably cheaper than Courtois' transfer fee could make sense to Conte and the board.
