Huge Spurs injury boost: Two key defenders fit to face Liverpool, fitness test for winger
TOTTENHAM'S title chase received a massive boost today with Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen ready to make a comeback.
Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed Jan Vertonghen is close to making a comeback against Liverpool
The Spurs centre back, 27, has been out for two months with a knee ligament injury, but is poised to make a comeback in the crucial visit to Liverpool on Saturday.
Vertonghen, picked up the injury in Totennham's 3-1 win at Crystal Palace on 23 January, but at last Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino said today: "Vertonghen is very, very, very close. It is possible that maybe he is ready to be selected."
Argentina winger Erik Lamela will have a late check on a muscle injury before Pochettino, whose team lie five points behind Premier League leaders Leicester, finalises his team for the trip to Anfield. Toby Alderweireld has recovered from a bout of sickness.
Pochettino said: "Toby is ok, he trained in the last two days in a very good way. We need to assess Erik Lamela as he arrived only this morning after a very long journey from Argentina, and he suffered some issues."
