Man Utd Player Ratings: Awful Fellaini and woeful Varela sum up bad night for Red Devils
EXPRESS SPORT brings you Manchester United's player ratings from their 1-1 (Agg 1-3) defeat to Liverpool.
Anthony Martial celebrates after scoring the first goal for Manchester United
De Gea - Will be disappointed at how he was beaten by Coutinho. But any criticism would be harsh given his heroics this season - 7
Varela - The young right-back has impressed this campaign but he was beaten too easily by Coutinho for his goal and Liverpool appeared to target him - 4
Smalling - The Englishman was poor in the first leg but was better today - 6
Blind - Tidy on the ball as usual but had his hands full with a lively Daniel Sturridge - 5
Rojo - Missed a golden opportunity to give United a 2-0 lead and his miss was punished by Coutinho's excellent goal - 5
Carrick - The veteran kept things together in midfield for United as they pushed forward in search of a way back into the match but he is a shadow of his former self - 6
Fellaini - Could have been booked early on for an elbow on Firmino but eventually got a yellow for a clash with Lovren. He is completely out of his depth - 3
Lingard - Trusted by Van Gaal to start behind Rashford and should have scored early on with a header. His inexperience showed tonight - 5
Mata - Surprisingly started wide rather than in the number ten position and never got into the game as a consequence - 6
Martial - Left Clyne for dead and won a penalty to get United back into the game. He was United's most threatening player - 7
Rashford - His inexperience has shown in recent games and today he had little impact on the match - 6
