Newcastle to pay Rafa Benitez huge bonus… to make them £99m!
NEWCASTLE have reportedly agreed to pay Rafael Benitez a lucrative bonus payment if he keeps them in the Premier League this season.
Rafa Benitez has 10 games to save Newcastle
Benitez, 55, was yesterday appointed manager at St James’ Park - just hours after Steve McClaren was sacked.
He is tasked with hauling Newcastle out of the relegation zone with just 10 games remaining.
It was thought yesterday that Magpies chiefs were willing to hand the Spaniard a £2million bonus for survival.
But The Times claim that figure is actually £3m, on top of the £4m a season he will earn from his three-year contract.
Newcastle proved they were willing to spend big under McClaren by granting £83m worth of transfers since last summer.
And they will pay handsomely for Benitez knowing survival this term guarantees the club a minimum £99m in TV money alone.
The Premier League’s three-year, £5.1billion broadcast deal comes into effect next season and Newcastle owner Mike Ashley does not want to miss out on that prize.
