Revealed: How Newcastle manager Steve McClaren begged not to be sacked
STEVE MCCLAREN begged a senior Newcastle figure not to sack him, according to reports.
McClaren's job is said to be hanging by a thread
McClaren is said to be on the verge of losing his job after a 3-1 defeat to Bournemouth at St. James' Park on Saturday.
The result leaves the Magpies in 19th position in the table, a point of safety, and having won just two of their last 12 Premier League games.
The Times are claiming that McClaren met with Keith Bishop, an ally of the club's owner Mike Ashley, to plead for clemency after yet another defeat.
However, he is not the only manager with Premier League experience who has been mooted for the job.
Rafa Benitez, Tim Sherwood, Nigel Pearson and Brendan Rodgers are all potential candidates.
But Newcastle are also expected to consider appointing an interim such as Harry Redknapp to rescue them from relegation before appointing a permanent replacement in the summer.
