The Belgium international was arguably at fault for City's opener at Wembley, allowing Fernandinho's shot from a narrow angle to pass under his body.
Philippe Coutinho made up for Mignolet's error with a late equaliser to send the game into extra time, but the Reds went on to lose 3-1 on penalties after a goalless 30 minutes.
But Klopp has jumped to the 27-year-old's defence, claiming it was not a 'mistake' - but knows the experienced shot-stopper could have done better.
"I think you found a perfect moment to come here and ask about Mignolet," Klopp said. "I would lie if I said the goal in the final was unstoppable but Simon knows this too. It is how it is.

"I'm not sure it's a mistake but it was not perfect, and that's how it is in a goalkeeper's life. He's old enough, he's experienced enough and we have to go through it together."
Mignolet, who arrived at Anfield in 2013 from Sunderland, recently signed a new and improved deal which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2021.
