The Crystal Palace manager is without forwards Yannick Bolasie, Dwight Gayle, Connor Wickham and Bakary Sako, while captain and midfielder Yohan Cabaye is suspended for Sunday's home game against Chelsea.
Pardew, who tried to get Austin last season but was blocked by Rangers, said: "We need a striker, someone who can help keep our run going. We have been in the top five this season and we want to get back there.
